Julian Sander, great-grandson of August Sander, wants to bring his great-grandfather’s iconic photos to the blockchain via OpenSea, the series will make up the iconic photographer’s total archive of 10,700 photos, these NFTs will be given away for free, users only Gas fee is required. Julian’s goal is to “protect August Sander’s legacy on the blockchain.”
Launched on February 10, the project is run by the August Sander family estate led by Julian, and within a few weeks, more than 400 ETH was traded in OpenSea’s secondary sale.
August’s grandson Gerd (Julian’s father) had sold the photos as collectibles to SK Stiftung Kultur, SK retained the rights until 2034 and issued a takedown notice to OpenSea, which issued a statement and issued a statement on March 7.
