Fintech firm Block Inc said on Thursday it had partnered with Apple to integrate Square Payments into the iPhone’s “Tap to Pay” feature, which will be rolled out later this year. Merchants can accept contactless payments using just an iPhone and the Square POS app, with no additional hardware required, the company said.
The Early Access Program will help merchants test the iPhone integration this summer. Earlier news, in February this year, Apple announced plans to launch Tap to Pay on the iPhone.
Stripe will be the first payments platform to offer Tap to Pay on the iPhone to its business customers, including the Shopify Point of Sale app this spring.
