Joe Lubin, CEO of ConsenSys and co-founder of Ethereum ETH 2.62%, remains confident that Ethereum 2.0 will arrive in the next few months. In an interview in Miami last December, Lubin predicted that Ethereum 2.0 will arrive in the second quarter of this year or possibly in the third quarter. During a fireside chat at the Camp Ethereal crypto event in Wyoming last week, Lubin stuck to the timing of that prediction.
The merger is happening, surprisingly, within the same time frame, so my estimates remain the same, Lubin said. We have a team working hard, hard. He cited a key event to back up his prediction. The next step will be to transform the current Ethereum mainnet (which we call Ethereum 1.0) into a ghost network currently running in parallel (technically called the Beacon Chain, which will evolve into Ethereum 2.0). The mechanics of this shift led the Ethereum Foundation to rename Ethereum 2.0 in January to support the consensus layer.
