Dovey Wan, the founding partner of Primitive Ventures, took to the platform X to share her perspective on Ethereum’s rise to prominence. She credited its success to a strong intellectual framework, bolstered by influential institutions and a committed group of thought leaders.
Ethereum was successful thanks to its high church and a few powerful states around it since the inception, and the intelligentsia figureheads who are genuinely positive sum players

Ethereum is now going through a separation of church and state, a painful yet necessary…
Wan emphasized that although Ethereum‘s development has faced significant challenges, these difficulties are a crucial part of the process in building a more decentralized and resilient technological foundation. This requires not only the establishment of new design standards but also the cultivation of networks rich in both human and intellectual capital.
Wan compared Ethereum’s current evolution to historical shifts such as the separation of church and state and the Enlightenment, noting that decentralization and the embracing of diverse ideas would strengthen the ecosystem. She suggested that as new developers enter the space, there may be a tendency to prioritize pragmatic development over political alignment, a trend reminiscent of the rise of decentralized finance (DeFi) during the summer of 2020.
Wan further expressed growing optimism about Ethereum’s future, especially as prominent figures within the ecosystem, including its co-founder Vitalik Buterin, face public challenges. Rather than seeing these as setbacks, Wan believes they are part of the necessary struggle that will ultimately fortify Ethereum for the long haul.
