Nearly $2bn (£1.75bn) has been spent on virtual lot purchases over the past 12 months as ordinary people and businesses race to gain a foothold in the metaverse.
One of the most popular metaverses right now is Decentraland, where Samsung, UPS and Sotheby’s, as well as fashion brand Philipp Plein, have purchased virtual plots to build stores and visitor centers.

In The Sandbox, Adidas, Atari, Ubisoft, Binance, Warner Music and Gucci purchased virtual parcels.
