Macaes Bruno, author of the best-selling “Virtualism Manifesto,” posted on social media that he still isn’t sure what the connection between cryptocurrencies and the metaverse is.
Perhaps, virtual worlds need some immutability to thrive, and only cryptocurrencies can provide that immutability?
Ethereum founder Buterin responded to this, saying, is there a definite definition of the metaverse? It feels like it’s still in the early stages of being widely recognized, and anyone can use this to describe their product, just to make it sound meta enough or virtual enough, etc.
Buterin added that both encryption and the metaverse appear to be trying to replicate aspects of authenticity in virtual worlds. But their concerns seem to be completely different, almost diametrically opposed.
