Thailand is looking for the latest payment options for tourists in the country amid Western economic sanctions against Russia.
The Phuket Tourism Association (PTA) and the Bank of Thailand (BOT) are negotiating a new payment law package for Russian tourists, including cryptocurrencies. Previously, Visa and Mastercard had suspended Russian credit card payments abroad.
Thai media reported that Bhummikitti Ruktaengam, president of the Phuket Tourism Association, recently discussed whether to open up cryptocurrency payments to Russian tourists, a backup option that can no longer handle fiat transactions.
