Neopets Metaverse is an NFT-powered game based on the wildly popular pet simulator from 1999.
Abruptly canceled last month after about two years in development, the team is repurposing some assets from the Neopets Metaverse for a new mobile game that will contain no cryptographic elements.
Neopets CEO Dominic Law explained that market conditions and negative community sentiment towards cryptocurrencies were the two main reasons why Neopets canceled its crypto game.
“At this stage, they probably don’t care too much about what Web3 is, which has a lot of negative implications for the mass market,” he said.
According to Dominic Law, the release of higher-quality NFT games can help reduce the misconceptions currently surrounding the industry.
However, as of now, he doesn’t think there are enough good products on the market.
